Ganguly made India into a winning team
Younis Khan : Diary | Nov 11, 2008
Sourav Ganguly has left India now and he can be very proud of what he did for the team and his country as a batsman but most of all for his contribution as captain.

India were always a good team, under Kapil Dev, Mohammad Azharuddin, Sachin (Tendulkar), but after a long time they never won enough away from home outside of their own conditions.

Ganguly changed that perception and started winning Test matches overseas. India has won many more games overseas now but I think that stemmed from what Ganguly started. They have won some tough matches in Australia, England and other countries.

He obviously had some legendary players under him like Rahul Dravid, Sachin (Tendulkar), Anil Kumble and more but Ganguly was his own man and also scored some big hundreds like the one he made against us in Bangalore last year.

In fact he scored a lot of runs against us and usually big runs, he’s a very aggressive player and deserves the runs he has scored because he has always played positively and looked to move games on rather than just staying there.

India will miss him but because of what Ganguly has done with the bat and as skipper he leaves the team in a very healthy position and India are going to be a strong unit for some time, I’m sure.
